About the training

Delivered online, Syllabus Training courses combine live sessions with self-led learning. All syllabus content, videos and resources are included with the course.

Participants are supported through a variety of ways to learn, digest and embody the Rambert Grades material.

Progressive contemporary dance training grounded in the professional dance industry, with an ethos centred on nurturing the individual’s voice.

Rambert Grades provides 12 qualifications in Contemporary Dance across 4 levels. From age 3 to pre-professional, students gain transferable skills and knowledge in contemporary dance which enables them to unleash their creative force and own their individuality.

Structured around Technical, Performance and Creative strands, Rambert Grades connects teachers and students to the heritage of Rambert training and iconic choreographyer. The Performance Strand introduces students to solos by renowned choreographers including Matthew Bourne, Hofesh Shechter, Alesandra Seutin and more.

Rambert Grades is an Ofqual-regulated awarding body, ensuring clarity, consistency, and recognised progression routes.

The first step is to apply for Rambert Grades membership.

Our Syllabus Training courses are available exclusively to Rambert Grades members. Membership provides access to resources, support, and a global community of educators.

Invidual membership: £150
Centre membership: £165
Additional centre member: £50

Discounts are available for Centre Memberships, Royal Academy of Dance members, and recent graduates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can become a Trained Teacher?

We welcome membership applications from a wide range of practitioners with different backgrounds and experience. 

To teach Levels 1-3 (Grades 1-8), applicants should evidence a recognised dance teaching qualification or a combination of dance experience and teaching credentials. Alternatively, equivalent professional experience may be considered.

To teach Entry Level qualifications (Creative Movers, Pre-Primary, Primary and Future Movers), applicants should evidence a Level 4 or above teaching qualification, or you can submit evidence to demonstrate how your experience meets this criteria. This does not need to be a dance teaching qualification.

How do I begin teaching?

First, select your preferred membership type and complete the short application process.

Once your application is approved and payment is completed, you will gain access to book Syllabus Training courses.

Do Royal Academy of Dance teachers get a discount?

Rambert Grades is the recommended contemporary dance syllabus provider for the Royal Academy of Dance.

RAD members benefit from discounted annual Rambert Grades membership, of 40% off for Registered Teachers and 20% off for Members/Members Plus.

All Rambert Grades Syllabus Training also contributes to RAD Time-Valued CPD.

What happens after training?

Participants are immediately qualified to deliver Rambert Grades Contemporary Dance and to submit students for examinations. Ongoing support is available through the Rambert Grades team, community of educators, and optional CPD refresher courses delivered online.

This would be my first time teaching Contemporary Dance. Can I train?

Yes! Rambert Grades welcomes educators from a wide range of backgrounds and styles. Syllabus Training courses, CPD opporunities, workshops and resoources are in place to support you to deliver high-quality Contemporary Dance training to your students.
